The reality of the type of chemotherapy that I’m on is that my hair will fall out.
For my children, ages 2 and 1, the change in my appearance will be the one that they notice the most and will probably be the only part of this diagnosis that they understand.
So, we decided to have a haircut party. I am fortunate that I have dear friends who have a stylist come to the house. We joined in on their hair-day.
It was perfect. Everyone got their haircut. Our friends, our friends’ children, my husband, and my son. And me.
And my two year old said my hair was cool and that was it.
We normalized this step in the process for him.
“Mom, everybody gets their hair cut!”
I’m so grateful for the experience and knowing that my children are resilient and happily along for the ride.
